How Reporter Salaries Compare with Other Jobs

Journalism has never been known for its high wages, but federal data suggest that reporters are falling further behind workers in other occupations. In a story today, AJR reports that the mean annual salary for reporters and correspondents in the U.S. last year was below the national average for all job types.

To offer a measure of how reporters stack up against other jobs, AJR pulled mean salaries for 18 different occupations from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Here’s who’s higher and who’s lower on the national pay scale:
